===> Triple Play Awards #1 and # 2 Issued Jan 16, 2009 --
Congratulations to Dave, W2YC for winning Triple Play WAS Award # 1 on
15 January, 2009. Jeff, W7JW achieved # 2 on 16 January, 2009.
Congrats! What is the Triple Play? See
http://www.arrl.org/news/features/2009/01/01/10470/
As of January 28 some sixty-four operators have achieved the award.
Hudson Division members who have attained the award are Michael E
Herzog, WB2KSK of Little Neck, NY at number 14; James Knight, W2JLK of
Matawan, NJ at number 25; Gennady Moshkov, NT2A Of Staten Island, NY at
number 36; Andrei Stchislenok, NP3D of Plainview, NY at number 40;
Frank Fallon, N2FF of East Williston, NY at number 43; Michael Lisenco,
N2YBB of Brooklyn, NY at number 53; and Art Searle, W2NRA of Lake
Grove, NY at number 56.
Congratulations to all and I am sure more will soon join the list.
You can find the rules for the Triple Play Award at
http://www.arrl.org/awards/
along with a picture of the certificate
that will be issued. It is a numbered award so there is competition to
be one of the early ones to get the award. You will also find the
rules for other awards that might interest you.
Those seeking the award should be listening to the activity on 3618 SSB
nightly and also checking the listings on the "K3UK LoTW Sked Page" at
http://www.obriensweb.com/sked/index.html
. This is an impressive site
much like a chat room allowing one line text messaging for arranging
skeds on the three required modes. It will also give you an idea as
what stations are on in the various states. See
http://www.arrl.org/lotw/
for information about getting started with
LoTW or look at
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2009/01/26/10589/?nc=1
To qualify for the award you must be a "Logbook of the World" user and
use your computer logging program to upload your QSO information to the
ARRL site. The stations you work for the award must also be LoTW users
and upload their logs so the LoTW software can find the matches. The
Triple Play Award is achieved when you work all fifty states in the
three modes - CW, Phone, and Digital - for a total of 150 contacts.
N2FF Comments: "It was fun to make the award in only 26 days. I
made
a lot of contacts and came across a great many very helpful hams. It
was truly a very positive experience. I sent many e-mail pleas for
help, text messages on the K3UK site, entered three contests (one for
each mode), and made many directional CQs looking for the last few
states and modes. The last states for me were MI, MO, AL, SD, and MT -
in that order. One of those five was nice enough to reply to many
e-mails and also send me his cell phone number so we could make the
contact. I finally worked him mobile on both SSB and CW. The final
contact came as I listened to NP3D calling directional CQs and a
Montana station responded and we both worked him. I was very impressed
at how helpful all of the other hams were, unlike fishermen, they told
me where the big ones were and how to catch them.
During the process I was repeatedly reminded of ARRL First Vice
President, N3KN, Kay Craigie's, remarks during her great keynote speech
at Ham Radio University on Sunday January 11th about trying something
new in ham radio in 2009 and how it would help you meet new friends.
She was right. Working for the "Triple Play Award" was a very positive
experience.
If you don't try the Triple Play Award, please try something new like
PSK. Hey, PSK is a digital mode and you can use the states for the
Triple Play Award."

2009) -- With the many weather events and other newsworthy items of
note in 2008, ARRL Media and Public Relations Manager Allen Pitts,

motivational level and activities of individual Public Information
Officers (PIOs) are highly variable. Some PIOs are excellent. Some
retain the PIO title but are inactive, while others are motivated, but
apparently not aware of the basic expectations of their role or the
skills involved." See

===> Hudson Division Club Newsletter Award for 2008 goes to the Peconic
ARC
Husdon Division Assistant Directors picked the best newsletter in 2008
as "PARC Serves" the newsletter of the Peconic ARC in Suffolk County
New York. The club newsletter was selected twice lasst year as monthly
best. Editor Paul Birman, WA2JPJ was unable to be presented his
plaque at HRU in early January because he was in sunny Ft. Laauderdale,
Florida (lucky lad) but he will be on hand in early February when
Director Fallon will make the presentation at a club meeting. Check
the division web page
http://www.hudson.arrl.org/newsletterawards/2008/200804PeconicARC0408.pdf
for a copy of the newsletter and other top division club newsletter.

LOG. Congratulations to editor Rich Levow WA2NLL on a job well done.
Clubs please make sure that you continue to send a copy of your pdf
file to n2ff@arrl.org . I have been
missing some issues in the last few
months. Not every division club is submitting each month. It's like
Lotto, if you don't buy a ticket or send a PDF you can't win!
